A Study of Lines and Shadow

Writer's picture: Kim Burton-RegulskiKim Burton-Regulski

Over the past few months, I have been participating in an online creative course called The Life Feast. (https://www.larockstarcreative.com/) Lizzie Larock is a wonderful instructor, who challenges you to savor life's little moments through the creative lens of photography. One of the exercises in the course focuses on capturing shadows. These are the photos that I captured one afternoon in my back yard.

I was drawn by the lines that the shadows and branches made. I've always felt like trees tell their own stories. Whether they are stretching out to the clouds or intertwined creating a connection between branches, they show how they have aged and changed in their environment. They are all so different too. Some stand strong and sturdy in the wind, while others are delicate with their young branches swaying as if they might break. With the changing seasons, they also tell another story, the story of passing time and of the joy that comes from change even when we reluctantly wish things would remain the same.
