As children, we all have our favorite seasons. Our senses hold onto the memories of the changing seasons and all that we love about them. The smell of chorine from those summer days splashing in the pool, the sound of the crunch of leaves under our feet as we went trick-or-treating, the sight of those first snowflakes when we were wishing for a snow day, and the feel of the sun on our faces as we ran through a freshly cut field of grass spark the joy that we had as children.
In some cases, we hold onto those moments of joy, not leaving them behind, but continuing them even as we grow older. For example, you will still find me crunching through the leaves on an autumn day. I just can't get enough of the sound and the fact that pumpkins and Halloween are just around the corner. As a teacher, I still love all that goes with a snow day. I love the anticipation of whether or not the snow will stick to the roads and wondering when the call will be made allowing me to slip back into my warm bed for some extra sleep. I also love making snowmen and the thrill of sledding down a steep hill. If I had to pick a season, Spring might be my favorite because of my garden. I like to get outside to plant beautiful things and watch them grow. I love the vibrant colors of a spring garden and how everything is renewing itself. For me, summer is definitely not about swimming at the pool. It is more about evening walks by the ocean listening to the waves and searching for seashells.
As I get older, the seasons are more about spending time with my family and friends together enjoying what each season has to offer.
